Why We Love Telemedia Barcelona

Telemedia Barcelona tends to arrive at exactly the right point in the year.

After January and February spent in planning mode, or hibernating if you live in the northern hemisphere, it’s often the first opportunity to step away from the office and have face-to-face conversations with the people you work with across the mobile payments and carrier billing ecosystem. For us, that timing matters. It’s a chance to sense-check priorities, pick up early signals from the market, and move from theory into practical discussion.

Part of a bigger week in Barcelona

As one of the first industry events in the calendar, Telemedia Barcelona plays an important role. It doesn’t try to be everything to everyone. Conversations tend to be grounded. What’s working. What’s proving difficult. Where attention is starting to shift.

The timing helps too. Telemedia Barcelona sits within a wider industry week, coinciding with Mobile World Congress and the MEFFYS, organised by the Mobile Ecosystem Forum. With so many industry leaders already in the city, conversations often extend beyond a single event, carrying across meetings, dinners, and follow-up discussions.

That overlap creates opportunities to connect dots across the ecosystem and continue discussions in different settings. And on a more personal note, last year we won the Payments and Commerce category at the MEFFYS, which made for a very good start to the year.

Time well spent with the right people

Telemedia’s two-day structure works well. Sunday centres on lunch and informal networking, giving people time to reconnect and settle into conversations. Monday is more intense, with a full day of scheduled meetings and business discussions.

It makes it easier to have proper discussions, whether that’s catching up with existing contacts or making new connections across the value chain.

What’s not to love about Barcelona?

Barcelona in early March brings a welcome change from the UK winter. You might even see the sun! And of course, the city has a great nightlife and food scene, which makes it an easy place to continue conversations outside the meeting room.

We should also give a mention to the World Telemedia team. Jarvis, Anzelle, Annika, Geraldine and Paul do a great job running the event, and it’s always good to catch up with them over a drink, if they ever get a moment to stop.

We attend Telemedia Barcelona because it gives us a practical way to reconnect with clients, build new relationships, and take stock of how the year is shaping up.
