Why We Love Telemedia Barcelona

Telemedia Barcelona tends to arrive at exactly the right point in the year.

After January and February spent in planning mode, or hibernating if you live in the northern hemisphere, it’s often the first opportunity to step away from the office and have face-to-face conversations with the people you work with across the mobile payments and carrier billing ecosystem. For us, that timing matters. It’s a chance to sense-check priorities, pick up early signals from the market, and move from theory into practical discussion.

Part of a bigger week in Barcelona

As one of the first industry events in the calendar, Telemedia Barcelona plays an important role. It doesn’t try to be everything to everyone. Conversations tend to be grounded. What’s working. What’s proving difficult. Where attention is starting to shift.

The timing helps too. Telemedia Barcelona sits within a wider industry week, coinciding with Mobile World Congress and the MEFFYS, organised by the Mobile Ecosystem Forum. With so many industry leaders already in the city, conversations often extend beyond a single event, carrying across meetings, dinners, and follow-up discussions.

That overlap creates opportunities to connect dots across the ecosystem and continue discussions in different settings. And on a more personal note, last year we won the Payments and Commerce category at the MEFFYS, which made for a very good start to the year.

Time well spent with the right people

Telemedia’s two-day structure works well. Sunday centres on lunch and informal networking, giving people time to reconnect and settle into conversations. Monday is more intense, with a full day of scheduled meetings and business discussions.

It makes it easier to have proper discussions, whether that’s catching up with existing contacts or making new connections across the value chain.

What’s not to love about Barcelona?

Barcelona in early March brings a welcome change from the UK winter. You might even see the sun! And of course, the city has a great nightlife and food scene, which makes it an easy place to continue conversations outside the meeting room.

We should also give a mention to the World Telemedia team. Jarvis, Anzelle, Annika, Geraldine and Paul do a great job running the event, and it’s always good to catch up with them over a drink, if they ever get a moment to stop.

Meet the MCP team in Barcelona

We attend Telemedia Barcelona because it gives us a practical way to reconnect with clients, build new relationships, and take stock of how the year is shaping up.

If you’re heading to Barcelona this year and would like to meet, we’d be glad to find time. What are you hoping to get out of the first industry event of the year? Book a meeting with our team here

Why Pakistan’s Consent Directive Signals a New Era of Verifiable Mobile Services

PTA’s recent clarification on explicit prior consent for Value-Added Services marks an important step in the continued evolution of Pakistan’s mobile ecosystem. Consumer protection and sustainable operator revenue are not opposing objectives. They depend on each other. The practical question now facing the industry is not whether consent should be obtained, but how it can be clearly evidenced when disputes arise. As markets mature, the shift moves from policy to proof. Verifiable, structured consent recording is increasingly becoming part of the governance infrastructure that supports long-term stability across the value chain.

Germany’s mVAS and Mobile Payments Market: Why Discipline Is Creating the Next Opportunity

Germany’s mVAS and mobile payments market is often described as complex, heavily regulated, and difficult to enter. In reality, it has been deliberately reshaped. What looks restrictive from the outside is, in fact, a market that chose sustainability over short-term volume. For CSPs willing to operate with transparency, differentiation, and genuine consumer value, Germany is no longer a closed door. It is a proving ground for services built to last.

Self-Regulation in Mobile Payments: Why the Smartest Players Think Beyond Conversions

Self-regulation is often seen as friction or self-imposed limitation. But in mobile payments markets facing growing scrutiny, it may be one of the few levers left to protect long-term growth. This article explores why thinking beyond conversions isn’t idealism, it’s market survival.
