Key Insights from the Global Carrier Billing & Mobile Payments Summit 24

MCP Insight was pleased to attend the Global Carrier Billing and Mobile Payments Summit in Amsterdam last month. The event, held in a new venue and jointly organised by Informa Tech and the Mobile Ecosystem Forum (MEF), provided an excellent opportunity to reconnect with clients and friends from the mobile value-added services (mVAS) and direct carrier billing (DCB) sectors.

Our team participated in two insightful conference sessions, and we are excited to share the recordings of these events, which cover key topics shaping the industry.

Collaborative Report Showcase: Ten Way to Optimise the Customer Experience

On the first day of the conference, MCP Insight’s Director, Kev Dawson, chaired a session that launched the MEF DCB Working Group’s latest report, Optimising the Customer Experience. The panel featured Rabih Jreish, Partnership Manager at MobileArts / Mobibox, Mohamed Benhamadi, Managing Director of Business Development at Telecoming, and Pascal Dufour, Vice President for the Middle East, North Africa & Turkey at Digital Virgo. Together, they shared their insights into managing customer journeys in the DCB ecosystem, offering strategies to enhance user engagement and satisfaction.

Key takeaways from the session included the importance of building trust with consumers, but also about managing the DCB value chain to ensure that all parties are aligned with a transparent and secure customer journey. Self-regulation and the need to collaborate with others in the value chain, including competitors, was also a key point highlighted in the session. The working group’s latest report exemplifies this approach, emphasising that strengthening cooperation across the DCB ecosystem is crucial for delivering a seamless and trustworthy customer experience.

UK Regulation: Are you Ready for the Biggest Change in a Decade?

The second session, hosted by Joanna Cox of AIMM, focused on the evolving regulatory landscape in the UK phone-paid services industry. With the PSA being absorbed into Ofcom and a new regulatory model on the horizon, this session tackled the most significant changes to impact the UK’s mobile paid-for content and services market in a decade. MCP Insight’s Head of Compliance, David Ashman, joined the panel alongside Victoria Hull, Business Development Director at Dynamic Mobile Billing, Leon Dijksman, COO at Sam Media, and Peter Garside, Head of Charge to Bill & Digital Identity APIs at EE. They discussed how businesses can successfully and compliantly operate under the new regime.

The UK is a good example of where self-regulation has helped to create a compliant and sustainable mVAS/DCB market. AIMM, alongside MCP Insight, formed a working group earlier this year focused on protecting Google Responsive Display Ad traffic from increased regulatory interest, while at the same time protecting consumers from harm.
