MCP Insight Fraud Education – Dissecting Network Layered Fraud

We use intel gathered from MCP Shield (MCP’s proprietary fraud detection and blocking solution), to deconstruct fraud and help our partners understand threats to their security or their customers’ security. In this case, three different devices/servers across three different countries were involved in a single case of fraud, highlighting the vulnerability of unprotected gateways.

It starts with an APK installed on a phone in Italy “registering” with the network operator on the Gateway. Next, instructions are received from a second server in the UK and the transaction is “completed ” via a server in Switzerland.

MCP Shield can identify this sort of issue and server location because it maintains a careful watch on IP usage through-out an entire transaction. Plus, as we apply machine-learning controlled checks in real-time we find further anomalies immediately.
